Minuets are gentle, affectionate, and remarkably easygoing. They inherit the sweet temperament of the Persian and the playful curiosity of the Munchkin, resulting in a well-balanced personality. They enjoy interactive play sessions but are equally happy lounging on a soft cushion. They are patient with children and tolerant of other pets. Not overly vocal, they communicate with soft chirps and purrs. Their adaptable nature makes them suitable for first-time cat owners who want a calm yet engaging companion.

Personality
Features
Minuets are small to medium-sized cats with a round head, large round eyes, and a sweet, open expression reminiscent of their Persian ancestry. Their legs can be short (standard Minuet) or regular length (non-standard Minuet). The coat comes in both longhair and shorthair varieties and is plush, dense, and soft to the touch. Their compact, well-muscled body is surprisingly solid for their size. The nose is moderately short with a gentle dip, avoiding the extreme flat face of the modern Persian.
History
The Napoleon was created by Joe Smith, a former Basset Hound breeder, in 1996. Inspired by a Wall Street Journal article about the Munchkin breed, Smith set out to create a short-legged cat with the luxurious appearance of the Persian group. He crossed Munchkins with Persians, Exotic Shorthairs, and Himalayans. The breed was initially called the Napoleon after the famously short French emperor. TICA accepted the breed into its Preliminary New Breed program in 2011 and officially renamed it the Minuet in 2015. Both short-legged and standard-legged kittens are born in each litter.
Health Notes
Because of their Persian heritage, Minuets may inherit PKD, so DNA testing of breeding cats is essential. Their shortened muzzle can occasionally cause mild respiratory issues, though the standard avoids the extreme brachycephaly of show Persians. Short-legged individuals should be monitored for spinal issues such as lordosis. Annual echocardiograms are recommended to screen for HCM. Tear duct overflow may occur and should be gently cleaned daily.
Care Tips
Longhair Minuets require daily brushing to prevent matting, while shorthair varieties need brushing two to three times per week. Pay special attention to cleaning around the eyes if tear staining occurs. Maintain a healthy weight to minimize stress on their shorter legs. Provide low-entry litter boxes and step-access cat furniture. Regular dental care and annual health checkups complete their wellness routine.
