Large cat breeds
For anyone who wants a big cat with real presence. These breeds are drawn from our own breed data on weight, and are the ones that reach a larger adult size.
Large breeds grow slowly, and some take three to four years to reach their full build. You get to enjoy the kitten years for longer, but you need to set up your home with the eventual size in mind.
A bigger cat needs a sturdy cat tree, a larger litter tray, enough room to move and more food. Carrying them and taking them to the vet is also more of a load than with a small or medium breed.
Many large breeds are described as easy-going and gentle, though how active or affectionate they are varies by individual. Some health concerns are more common in large breeds — heart conditions among them — so make regular check-ups a habit.
