Quiet cat breeds
For anyone in an apartment or working from home who worries about how much a cat meows. How loudly and how often a cat vocalises does vary by breed. These breeds are drawn from our own breed data on vocalisation, and are the ones generally described as quieter and more reserved.
Vocalisation does differ somewhat between breeds, but the variation between individual cats of the same breed is large. What follows are simply the breeds that tend to be described as quiet.
Even a quiet breed will meow when it is hungry, wants attention, or feels unsettled. Living quietly with a cat is about more than the breed: keep a steady daily rhythm, give them enough play and exercise, and try not to reward demanding meows every time.
